Cumberland and Oxford Counties Private Wells Have High Uranium Levels

Percent of Maine Wells that Exceed State Guideline for Uranium of 30 ug/L

About these figures

Figure (A) shows the percent of private wells tested for uranium that exceeded Maine’s Maximum Exposure Guideline among private wells with water samples tested by the State of Maine Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory between the years 1999 and 2013. As of January 2017, Maine’s Maximum Exposure Guideline for uranium is 30 micrograms per liter (ug/L). For locations with less than 20 wells tested, this calculation is considered unstable, and results are displayed as gray. All test results reported as less than the laboratory’s limit of detection were replaced with a value that is one-half of the detection limit.
